In Bærum there are both private kindergartens and kindergartens run by the municipality.
These are all approved educational organisations for daytime care of children from 1 to 5 years of age.
Municipal kindergartens
Opening hours are from 7.30 to 17.00 Monday to Friday. These kindergartens are for children ages 1 to 5.
Private kindergartens
Opening hours vary from 7.00 to 17.30 Monday to Friday. These kindergartens are for children ages 1 to 5.
Family kindergartens
Opening hours vary from 7.30 to 16.30 Monday to Friday. These kindergartens usually accommodate children ages 1 to 3 in private homes. Depending on the number of children, the kindergartens have one to two assistants supervised by educated personnel. All family kindergartens are private.
How and when to apply
Application for main admission must be submitted by 1 March. The main admission offers spaces available in August.
You are entitled to a place if you:
- have applied by 1 March and want a start date in August.
- have children who turn one year old no later than 30 November in the year that you apply for a place.
- have an official address in Bærum.
The right to a place is fulfilled when you are offered a place in a kindergarten in Bærum.
It is also possible to apply throughout the year. Send application forms to Barnehagekontoret, which coordinates admission to all kindergartens in Bærum.
Parents are entitled to a reduced rate for siblings. The second child of a family receives a 30 per cent discount, while third and additional children get a 50 per cent discount.
It is possible to apply for a reduced fee based on levels of income.
